15_minute_fic Word # 5

fakiaTitle: What She Sees
Fandom/original: Bleach
Characters: Ishida Uryuu
Rating: G
Word count: 302
Just a little insight on Ishida. Spur of the moment, didn't have manga handy for quotes, so I took the liberty to ad-lib his dialogue instead of going by what was ACTUALLY said. I only had 15 minutes to write it, so please be kind. ^^;

Inoue always seemed to talk so animatedly about Kurosaki's quirks.
The first he had heard of it was some time in class, when she babbled happily to her best friend. Something about the boy's scowl and how silly it was. Silly was right. Uryuu didn't know what could possibly possess a person to look so angry all the time, but somehow, Ichigo had managed it and won a girl's heart. Orihime had compared it to a clown, or an actor, painting what looked positively childish in a new and endearing light.
He figured she admired his hot-headedness too. Oh, not for the fact that he got upset so easily, but there was no pretending that the Quincy didn't know how much Inoue respected Kurosaki's desire to protect his friends.
It wasn't that Uryuu didn't want to show that sort of friendship (who were his friends, anyway?); it was just infuriating to think one could act first, ask questions later and not suffer some sort of ill consequence for that behavior. More upsetting still was that it never seemed to be the case for Kurosaki, and all those little things that were so annoying to him were the very traits that drew Inoue instead.
"Going somewhere, Kurosaki?"
Uryuu pushed his glasses up against his nose in a gesture that had long since become more of an instinct and less of a need. Despite all they had been through, he still wasn't sure why he kept tagging along. Ichigo would probably not need his help, but his pride wouldn't let him back down and stay home.
"You didn't think you could rescue her all by yourself, did you?"
Then again, maybe this time he would get the chance to shine, and for once Inoue would notice the little important things about him as well.
